EARLY YEARS FUN!
Reception children have been reading the story of "The Little Red Hen" this week. They decided to bake some bread too! They had some amazing chefs following the recipe and all the children loved tasting the fresh bread.
The 2 year old nursery children have been harvesting home grown potatoes and runner beans. They enjoyed washing and cooking the potatoes which they ate as part of their snack.
Harvest Festival
We will be holding our Harvest Festival Assembly for children on Friday 22nd September and collecting food to be given to local people in need by Derby City Mission. Please see separate leaflet for details of the donations they would like. Thank you for your generosity.
Read Write Inc - How to say the sounds
For all Reception parents, we use Read Write Inc to teach children to read using phonics. To find out how to pronounce the sounds we use, and how to support your child, you can watch a video online.
Go to http://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/parents/ and click on "How to say the sounds"
Or Google "Ruth Miskin Pure Sounds", then click on the first YouTube video that appears.
SILK MILL VISIT
Year 3 and 4 visited the Silk Mill and Derby Museum to find out all about the Industrial Revolution in Derby. We learned about the first factory in England and how it produced silk threads using water power.
WATERSTONES VISITS
We will be taking all children to Waterstones in Derby over the next 2 weeks, where they will be able to choose a book to take home, paid for by the school. Please look out for the letter which will tell you when your child’s class is going, and make sure they have a coat and suitable footwear.
Morning Drop Ins
You are welcome to join your child in their classroom every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:45-9:00am to read with them, and help them with their morning challenges.
We look forward to seeing you!
DIVERSITY
We have a wonderfully diverse school with different cultures and religions. Please encourage your children to be tolerant and respectful towards other religions. It's important to celebrate our differences.
