Do you have a passion to support additional needs children with varied ability levels? Are you   looking for an exciting new role within a large, popular and thriving Inner City school? If so, and you can demonstrate that you are passionate about maximising our SEN children’s learning potential, then this role could be for you.

We are looking to appoint an experienced Additional Needs Teaching Assistant to work within our Orchard.  This is a provision set up to cater for some of our children with SEN, which is split into two groups (Apples – 9 children from reception to Y2 and Pears – 8 children from Y3 – Y6 ) based on age and level of need, providing a differentiated, small group approach for each child.  The bespoke curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of the children and involves individual, small group and whole class teaching as appropriate.

You will be a qualified and experienced Additional/Special Needs Teaching Assistant who has recent experience within a primary school and a strong working knowledge of the primary and early years curriculums.  You will ideally have experience of working with children with physical and educational difficulties.  You will be able to demonstrate resilience and calm in stressful situations, focussing on solutions with patience, kindness and empathy.  Your previous experience of supporting similar pupils will help your understanding and confidence in supporting a child and their family in overcoming barriers to their learning.

Arboretum is a Good school, as confirmed at our last Ofsted short inspection (November 2017). The inspectors felt that: “The pupils’ positive attitudes to learning and their respectful behaviour reflect the school’s values and the leaders’ good work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare”.

We are a large 635 place primary (which includes 32 children in our 2 year old unit and 78 in our 3 year old nursery), with a rich ethnic mix of delightful and well-behaved children. Our modern school has recently been refurbished and extensively extended and sits in large attractive grounds.  We pride ourselves in our caring ethos and the value we place in our dedicated and friendly staff teams.  We are a popular school, and have a waiting list for most year groups.  Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Assessment and testing of candidate’s suitability to work with children is an integral part of our selection process.  An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will also be required for the successful candidate.

We warmly invite prospective candidates to visit the school to find out more about us and the role.  To register your interest, please call the school office on (01332) 291140 or email . Please also take a few minutes to watch our school video on our Welcome page of our website to get a true flavour of Arboretum Primary School.
