We are looking to appoint a hardworking and enthusiastic Bilingual Family Liaison Officer & Classroom Support Assistant to work with children and families to from our Eastern European communities, and help them overcome barriers to learning inside and outside school.  The ability to communicate fluently in spoken and written Slovakian and Czech is essential; some ability to converse in Roma and/or other Eastern European languages is also desirable.  The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting children and families, with a professional manner that will enable them to build good relationships with parents, staff and outside agencies.

Arboretum is a Good school, as confirmed at our last Ofsted short inspection (November 2017). The inspectors felt that: “The pupils’ positive attitudes to learning and their respectful behaviour reflect the school’s values and the leaders’ good work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare”.

We are a large 635 place primary (which includes 32 children in our 2 year old unit and 78 in our 3 year old nursery), with a rich ethnic mix of delightful and well-behaved children. Our modern school has recently been refurbished and extensively extended and sits in large attractive grounds.  We pride ourselves on our caring ethos and the value we place in our dedicated and friendly staff teams.  We are a popular school, and have a waiting list for most year groups.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Assessment and testing of candidate’s suitability to work with children is an integral part of our selection process. An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will also be required for the successful candidate.

We warmly invite prospective candidates to visit the school to find out more about us and the role.  Due to the current circumstances, we will be offering visits after school on selected days. To register your interest, please email jobs@arboretum.derby.sch.uk
