Awesome 8’s visit Douglas Court residential home

It was Awesome 8’s turn to visit the local residential home for the elderly last Friday 1st December. Children performed the song, ‘A million dreams’ from the Greatest Showman and also a poem called ‘Spaghetti, Spaghetti’ which we had been learning in literacy. Children then talked to the residents and shared their topic learning. The residents really enjoyed hearing about the Big Top coming to the field. At all times, our children were kind, caring, respectful and friendly. We had a lovely message from the home afterwards saying children and teachers from Arboretum are always welcome to visit Douglas Court!

Parental Engagement

All the children enjoy having their parents come into school, and it helps to encourage their learning. Every time you come to an event in school, you will be given a raffle ticket, then each term we pick out a winner from each phase.

This time, the lucky winners each won a game to play with their family. They were:

EYFS - Sakeena from Nursery

Year 1/2 - Saif from Class 7

Year 3/4 - Abdulkadir from Class 12

Year 5/6 - Sarim from Class 18

Read For The Stars

Reminder that the Nursery book library is on Wednesdays. Books can be changed between 8.30 - 9.00 am and between 12.30 - 1.00 pm. Please do take the opportunity to borrow a book to read at home with your child.

During the holidays we will be holding our highly successful Arboretum play scheme. Children will be able to participate in playing lots of different sports like football, cricket, tag rugby and basketball to just name a few. We will also be running dance workshops on all 3 days to help children improve their fitness and wellbeing.

The Arboretum play scheme will be taking place on

Monday 18th, Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th February 2019 10am – 3pm.

The activities are FREE for your children, BUT THERE ARE ONLY 40 SPACES PER DAY, so please do not miss out on this opportunity!!!

If you would like you child to come along, collect a form from outside the office, then complete it and return to the office by Thursday 14th February.
