This week we have had a fabulous time, learning all about insects, habitats and pollination. The children have been lucky enough to be involved in making Bug Hotels to be placed in our school grounds. With close supervision, they have used a saw, drill and have been painting the bug boxes, ready for the bugs to move in. In the Summer, we will be able to use these hotels to learn all about habitats and life cycles. The nursery children have been learning about ladybirds during the week and have made their own bug hotels using cardboard boxes and natural materials.

Thank you to all of our Parents and Carers for coming into school and working alongside their children: it means a lot to the children and feedback has shown that you value these sessions very much. Look out for more opportunities to come and work alongside your child in school.

Thank you also to those of you who sent in sticks, bottles, wood etc to furnish our lovely Bug Hotels, and to the British Science Association who gave us a grant towards the cost of the activities.

Year 5/6 Visit Thinktank Science Museum

Last Friday Year 5 & 6 took a trip to Birmingham to visit the Thinktank Science Museum, where they had a great time learning about science in a really hands-on way. They took part in fun sessions on “Electrifying Science” and “Cauldron Chemistry”, as well as having time to look around the exhibits and try out lots of experiments. They are all now Super Scientists!

Thursday 23rd March and
Friday 24th March

Children will have the opportunity to choose a book to buy and listen to a story teller, during school time. If you want to give your children money to spend, please put it an envelope with their name on and give to their teacher.

Parents are welcome to visit the Book Fair from 3.15pm – 4.00pm, both days.

We have an exciting new library system, so we need to tidy up the books. Please can you check at home to see if you have any old library books that haven’t been returned. If so, please bring them back to school in the next 2 weeks and give them to your teacher. Then they will be available for other children to read.

Thank you

Mrs Allsopp & Miss Worrall

Pirates Take Over Nursery !

This week the children have been searching for treasure, drawing treasure maps and serving food in our pirate pizza parlour! We even made our own pirate costumes.

Fantastic Footballers!

Congratulations to our Year 3/4 girls football team who did fantastically well in their first tournament together at the Derby County Ladies Football festival. In the group stage, they won 3 matches, including an impressive 6-0 victory over Cottons Farm, and drew 2 to come top of their group. Unfortunately they lost to Park Side in the quarter finals, but overall it was a thoroughly successful day for the girls, with 3 of them being scouted by the Derby County Ladies FC scouts.

Next week sees the start of Miss Ford’s fantastic fundraising Easter Egg Raffle. There will be 2 Star Prizes - one for KS2 and one for KS1 & FS, plus lots of other chocolatey prizes!

Tickets are 2 for 50p

or 5 for £1

Tickets will be on sale every afternoon, starting Monday.
