LIBRARY OPENING

We held the official opening of our beautiful new library and courtyard, with a special guest of honour Professor Kathryn Mitchell, Vice Chancellor of Derby University.  The guests were welcomed to the library by a group of children from across the school who had excelled in their Easter reading challenge.  They talked about the reading that they had done, then explored the outside courtyard area, accompanied by garden designer Mark Smith, who explained about the wonderful plants that he had chosen.

Professor Mitchell spoke to the children about the importance of reading, and the opportunities that it could open up for the them in the future, and implored them to “Never stop reading!”

GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK

As always at this time of year, we will be saying goodbye to children and staff who are leaving us.  We send all our current Year 6 children our best wishes in their new schools—remember  to always “Reach for the Stars”.

We also say goodbye to some of our staff: Mrs Rutland, Miss Gilder, Miss Hussain, Mrs Yasmin, Mrs Kamran, Miss Hewitson, Mr Thomas, Mrs Baird, Mrs Morgan, Miss Hurley, Miss Wright, Mrs Shamim and Mrs Swan.

And a special goodbye to Mrs Ahmed, who has been a midday supervisor at Arboretum for 14 years!

NURSERY TRIP

The Nursery children had a wonderful time on their trip to Markeaton Park. They were very excited to ride on a double decker bus! At the park they explored the woods, had great fun on the playground and even found a fairy door in the secret garden! The children were brilliant representatives of our school, we were so proud of their behaviour on the trip.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

2019 has been a year to remember for sport at Arboretum.

First our cricket team travelled to Sheffield to take part in the County Championships, where they beat our neighbours, St James’ Juniors, in the final to be crowned Champions.  They won an amazing 14 games in a row to reach this point.

Not to be outdone, our Year 6 football team were crowned champions of the Normanton cluster football tournament.  This has been held every year since 2011, but this is the first time that Arboretum has won.  Congratulations to everyone who took part, and thank you to all the staff who have supported them.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

We wish all our families a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and we look forward to seeing all the children back in school on MONDAY 9th SEPTEMBER

CATHEDRAL PERFORMANCE

ARBO’S GOT TALENT!

This week we held our ever-popular “Arbo’s Got Talent”, where we had an amazing array of talented children performing in front of the school.  Congratulations to everyone who took part, and in particular to our winners: Class 4, Nicolas and Rassim, and our overall winner Muskan.  You are all stars!

HANDWRITING COMPETITION

We held a competition to find the children who had the neatest handwriting throughout their work.  The winners were chosen by Mrs Wynn, who took them to Waterstones Bookshop to choose their prizes.  Well done to the winners:  Yousuf, Aleeza , Aqsa and Umaiza,  and a huge thank you to Mrs Wynn for providing the prizes.

WEDDING BELLS!

We send our congratulations and best wishes to two members of staff who are getting married during the holidays.  Miss Allen will become Mrs Cross and Miss Johnson will become Mrs Icke.

FUNDRAISING

We all want to say a huge “Thank you” to Miss Ford who is standing down after being fundraising coordinator for a number of years.  She has helped raise an amazing total of almost £8,300 to go towards treats for the children.
