POND GRAND OPENING
On Wednesday, we were delighted to hold a Grand Opening Ceremony for our new wildlife pond. This was made possible by the kind support of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, who provided all the materials, and sent one of their team, Mr Peter Eley, to design and co-ordinate the work. The pond was then built by a team of volunteers from the local YMCA. We are now looking forward to seeing all the wildlife that will be attracted to the pond, even though we are in the middle of the city, and next year the children will be able to go “pond-dipping” to investigate what is in there for themselves.
We are very grateful to everyone who gave their support and hard work in making this project possible, and would like to say a huge ”Thank you” to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the YMCA.
ECO GREENHOUSE
Last Friday we were very excited to be visited by a reporter and cameraman from BBC East Midlands to film the opening of our Eco-Greenhouse. This is another exciting addition to our outdoor learning area, and we are looking forward to being able to grow things in it in the spring. The greenhouse is made of over 1200 plastic fizzy drinks bottles in a wooden frame, and is environmentally friendly, as it made good use of the bottles, and stopped them from being thrown away. It was organised by one of our Governors, Mr Benfield and paid for by Mercury AVS, who provide our IT support . A team of people from the Rotary Club and Mercury AVS then gave up their time to put it all together. We would like to say a big “Thank you” to them all for their generosity in making this possible for us.
