WORLD WAR II EXPERIENCE
Last week, as part of their topic on World War II, Years 5 and 6 visited Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire, to experience a taste of what it was like to be a child during World War II. They visited an air raid shelter , found out about rationing and gas masks, and tried their hand at sending coded messages. They learned so much and had an amazing time!
Stopping on Zig-zag lines
Yellow zig-zag lines and double yellow lines are placed outside schools for the safety of the children. It is ILLEGAL to park or even wait on these lines. Please park sensibly to help keep all our children safe.
Flu immunisations will be taking place on Tuesday 20th November for children from Reception to Year 5 who have returned a consent form.
If your child is being immunised, please see the Latest News section of our website for an important advice slip giving more information about this: www.arboretum.derby.sch.uk
WORLD WAR I CENTENARY
Last week we had a number of events to commemorate Remembrance Day and 100 years since the end of World War I. Children in Years 5 and 6 made a cenotaph, wreaths, poppies and created and read poems to mark this event.
Years 1 and 2 are learning about knights and castles so this week during PE children had the opportunity to become knights and learn some fencing skills. The children said they loved learning a new sport!

THIS IS DERBY!
Does your child love creative activities such as art, crafts and drama?
We at Arboretum have been chosen to take part in an exciting new project to help our children benefit from developing and improving six essential life skills.
To start things off we will be running a breakfast club every Friday from 8:00 - 8:45am, starting on 16th November. Staff from Artcore and Derby Theatre will come and work with the children on developing and improving essential life skills, whilst having fun being creative. If you would like your child to participate, please ask for a letter from Mr Malooq or the office.
NURSERY START TIMES
Please remember that the start times for both nurseries are 8:30am in the morning and 12:30pm in the afternoon.
In the afternoon, the gates are open from 12:30-12:40pm only for parents to bring their children into nursery. If you arrive after this time, please take your child to the main office, so that we can ensure they are registered correctly.
