Hello UKS2 children and carers,

Welcome to newsletter 5! Many of you will now be observing Ramadan – this lockdown is a difficult time for many of us as we cannot visit loved ones but we hope that it is wonderful to be able to celebrate this special month at home with your immediate family.

Activities that you could try this week:

Lots of you Year 6s bought the CGP SATs practice books last term – we hope that you’re still using them. There are also some 10-minute tests available on their website – you can have a go at both Maths and SPaG! Year 5s – challenge yourself and have a go too!

Illustrator Challenge
Rob Biddulph, a best- selling children’s author and illustrator, has produced some draw-along illustrator videos. Choose one and follow his steps – they’re really easy to do and look fantastic when they’re finished. Don’t forget to save anything you are proud of, to show us when school reopens!

Gravity Free Water

Become a scientist and amaze your family with this water trick. The full instructions are at the end of the newsletter. Remember to practise over a sink until you get the hang of it!

Read for the Stars

David Walliams is releasing an audio version of one of his stories each day on his website at 11am. Take a quiet moment during the day, settle down and listen to his hilarious 20-minute story session.

Pyjamarama Day

Friday 1st May is the Booktrust Pyjamarama Day. Wear your pjs and slippers all day and enjoy reading lots of books with your family.

On the website you can find some pyjamarama activities to do.
See the end of the newsletter for more information.

We are exploring other ways of parents accessing work and will be putting out a text later this week to all parents that will detail 3 new developments:
  1. BBC bitesize materials on website and TV
  2. Packs of work prepared by DDAT that can be picked up from Tesco stores
  3. Packs of equipment that can be collected from school to help with learning eg pencils paper sharpeners  etc

We will finish this week’s newsletter with a little message from all of your teachers. We are keeping busy with work and family – Mr Davies has been busy in school this week, Mrs Naylor has been doing some home-learning activities with her two little boys (she wishes they would sit still and listen though!) and Mrs Wright has been fence painting in the sunshine. However, we are all missing your happy, smiling faces, even though we know that staying at home is to keep us safe. So, we thought that we would send you a special message because we are sure that you are missing our smiling faces too!

Take care and enjoy your week!

The Year 5/6 Team J
