• Sports Week Update

  Due to the poor weather forecast for tomorrow, the Year 3/4 and Reception sports days will be postponed to Friday.

  The new timetable is:

  Tuesday 21st May 9:30am - Year 5 & 6

  Thursday 23rd May 9:30am - Year 1 & 2

  Friday 24th May 9:30am - Year 3 & 4

  Friday 24th May 1:30pm - Reception

• Sports Week

  Sports Week this year will take place from Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th May.  See below for the times for your children:

  Tuesday 21st May 9:30am - Year 5 & 6

  Wednesday 22nd May 9:30am - Year 3 & 4

  Wednesday 22nd May 1:30pm - Reception

  Thursday 23rd May 9:30am - Year 1 & 2

   

  We hope that you will be able to come and support your children.

  We hope that the weather will be fine, but if it rains the affected sessions will be rearranged.

  Please make sure that on their sports day, your child wears their PE kit and brings a water bottle and a hat.  Apply sunscreen before they leave home.

  

• Takeaway Lunch

  We are having a special lunch on Thursday 16th May - it's Takeaway Day!
  Your child can have a choice of fish & chips or quorn sausage & chips, with baked beans or mushy peas, and a waffle for dessert.

  

• Proposal to change the length of the school day

  I am writing to inform you of some proposed changes to the structure of the school day here at Arboretum Primary School. These changes are in line with the statutory requirements to ensure that the school week is 32.5 hours long from September 2024. To comply with these requirements, we propose to extend the length of the day by 15 minutes, so that start time will be 8.45 and home time will be at 3.15pm.

  Should the changes be agreed, they will come into force from Monday 27^th February 2024. This proposal has already been approved by governors on 16^th November.

  I believe that these changes will be beneficial to the school community and will have a positive effect on your child’s education. The additional 15 minutes per day will enable teachers to fit more lesson time into a very busy timetable.

  As a result of this change, we will reduce Breakfast Club by 15 minutes so that it ends at 8.45.  There will be no change to after school clubs.

  I appreciate that these changes may affect you, in terms of childcare or working arrangements, and in terms of your child’s education. For this reason, I would like to invite you to give your feedback by sending your responses to admin@arboretum.derby.sch.uk or via Dojo message to me.

  We will release the results of the consultation by Friday 12^th January and confirm this via letter and Dojo to you.

• Parents' Meetings

  We will be holding parents' meetings for most classes after school on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Look out for a letter so that you can book your appointment to discuss your child's learning.
  Please note that staff from the 2 year old and 3 year old nurseries and The Orchard will make separate arrangements for their parents’ meetings. Mrs Dundon-Innes will make separate arrangements for her meetings in the new year.

• OPAL  - Den building

• OPAL awarded platinum status in our recent assessment.

  We are very pleased to share that we have been awarded platinum status in our recent assessment. This is the highest award we could receive and makes us the first school in Derby to do so!

  We are very proud ! We would like to thank Mrs Ferguson and the play leaders for all of their hard work.  We know what a difference it makes to our children and are committed to maintaining this high standard.  LOOK out for new dates for our ‘Stay and Play’ coming soon……. Come join the fun!
