The aims of Arboretum Primary School are guided by the Code of Practice for Special Needs and Disabilities and link with these key values:

• To ensure the identification of all pupils requiring SEND provision as early as possible in their school career.
• To meet individual needs through a wide range of provision.
• To attain high levels of satisfaction and participation from pupils, parents and carers.

• To give transparent resourcing to SEND.
• To provide curriculum access for all.
• To work towards inclusion in partnership with other agencies and schools.
• To achieve a level of staff expertise to meet pupil needs.

We recognise that many pupils will have special needs at some time during their school life. In implementing this policy, we believe pupils will be helped to overcome their difficulties.

A child has special educational needs if he or she has learning difficulties that call for special educational provision to be made.

A child has learning difficulties if he or she:

• Has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age.

• Has a disability which prevents or hinders the child from making use of educational facilities of a kind provided for children of the same age in other schools within the Local Authority.  

Arboretum Primary School values the abilities and achievements of all its pupils, and is committed to providing each pupil with the best possible environment for learning.  

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS POLICY

Our SEND Policy reinforces the need for teaching that is fully inclusive. The Local Trust Committee will ensure that appropriate provision will be made for all pupils with Special Educational Needs and/Disabilities.

Arboretum Primary School is committed to providing an environment that enables full curriculum access that values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. THE DERBY CITY COUNCIL LOCAL OFFER

All local councils must publish their Local Offer detailing the provision available for children and young people who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or Disabilities between the ages of 0 and 25.

The Local Offer is available to everyone, including those without and Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan.
