The aims of Arboretum Primary School are guided by the Code of Practice for Special Needs and Disabilities and link with these key values:
We recognise that many pupils will have special needs at some time during their school life. In implementing this policy, we believe pupils will be helped to overcome their difficulties.
Definitions of special education needs taken from section 20 of the Children and Families Act 2014.
A child has special educational needs if he or she has learning difficulties that call for special educational provision to be made.
A child has learning difficulties if he or she:
Has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age.
Has a disability which prevents or hinders the child from making use of educational facilities of a kind provided for children of the same age in other schools within the Local Authority.
Arboretum Primary School values the abilities and achievements of all its pupils, and is committed to providing each pupil with the best possible environment for learning.
Our SEND Policy reinforces the need for teaching that is fully inclusive. The Local Trust Committee will ensure that appropriate provision will be made for all pupils with Special Educational Needs and/Disabilities.
The SEND Information Report sets out clearly the provision that is in place to support pupils with SEN.
Arboretum Primary School is committed to providing an environment that enables full curriculum access that values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. For information on how this is done, please see the school’s Accessibility Plan.
Our SENCo is Mrs Cavanagh. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Cavanagh via the school office 01332 291140 or email senco@arboretum.derby.sch.uk
